Zimbabwe
A Zimbabwean court on Tuesday heard a bail application for 68 protesters charged with public violence.
The group was arrested on Friday during a protest called by opposition parties pushing for democratic reforms in the Southern African country.
According to one of the country’s online news agencies – My Zimbabwe – an activist Tendai Mkwananzi was denied bail on the basis that he could interfere with State witnesses if freed.
Mkwanazi is a member of a social media movement known as #Taja-muka which says people are fed up of poverty, corruption and mismanagement of the economy.
Fourteen other protesters were also denied bail, according to the report and their case was adjourned to September 12.
